Squealer from Gouge Cartel.
Bronze amber, moderately hazed with an off-white head that reaches tow fingers with an aggressive pour. Abates over a few minutes with the odd bit of lace. Steady bead.
Strong doughy fruit-salad contingent with some grassiness and earthy pine behind it. Biscuity malts become increasingly evident. Enticing, albeit without the clarity seen in the best of the style.
Flavours are a bit more obscure. There's a green, dank hoppiness in there but also a boozy metallic presence that makes everything a bit muddled and undifferentiated. The flavours aren't standing up and shining like they should.
Bigger side of medium with nice oiliness from the hop resins. Carbonation is surprisingly restrained. Approachable bitterness for the style, makes for pretty easy drinking.
Promising, but far from picture perfect IIPA. There's no doubt this brewer has the potential to do a great IIPA in the future. This isn't quite there.
