Nice roast grains come through up front in aroma and flavor. Murky brown beer with thick, foamy head. Bitterness is not overbearing, but gives beer a nice bite.

A- Pours a cloudy amber with a thick tan head that's slow to dissipate.
S- Nice noble hop aroma with the sweet smell of malt in the background.
T- Sweet malt taste up front, but has a yeasty tang to it. A bready taste that sort of reminds me of Pumpernickel with just a hint of toast and caramel. Sweet but not thick, with a hint of stone fruit. Very clean other than the yeast. Despite the hop aroma, very little hop flavor and the bitterness is actually quite low. Nonetheless, there is a peppery quality to the finish.
M- Perhaps I poured it poorly, but this seemed quite carbonated for a Kellerbier.
D- The overcarbonation hurts drinkability, but other than this it's quite refreshing at 5.4% ABV.

Overall: This is a very nice beer, sort of a lager counterpart to a Dunkelweizen. The yeast gives it some depth, though I'd like to see a little more roast flavors from the dark malts. Nonetheless, worth picking up if you're in Germany and happen to come across this.

Poured into a Schultheiss half litre sleeve glass 7 days in front of its best before date.

This flip-top brown bottle was bought while close to Koblenz earlier this year. The beer being produced to help keep the brewery afloat while all its old traditional outlets sell out to Bitburger.

A slight mist in the 'Alt bier' type colour, muddy red, dark brown, with a firm biege head that stays the distance.

The aroma is all about maltiness, hops and yeast.

Good solid beery taste, the malts from the smell are very prominent in the taste as well. At first I thought it a little sweet, then a dryness arrives to take that idea away.

You know you are drinking a beer here, this has some body and substance to it.

I am glad I found this beer and also glad I enjoyed it. As I have said in other reviews for this brewery, it is an old favourite and I would hate for it to die. This beer could well be the one to save it from closure.
