On tap at the brewery.
Russet with taupe trailers. 4
Big toasty autumn leaf. 4
Pan crust, cherry skin, bready sweetness, some pepper, hints of fruit and lean IBUs. 4
Smooth, halfway to medium, crisp. 4
Hits most of the right notes - short on IBUs, maybe. Huge melanoidin character. Sessionable but not craveable which, with alts and bitters, is rather the point. And that’s disappointing from a supposed traditionalist QA-oriented brewery.
Warning track double. 3.75

I had this on-tap in a taster glass at the brewery.
Appearance: rich red hue with just the littlest hint of haze and an ivory head leaving a nice lace.
Smell: rather beery aroma; lots of toasty malt and earthy hops.
Taste: drier than most altbiers I've had with a toasty malt flavor right up front. Bitterness is moderate and earthy in character. Kind of like an ESB, almost. I like this take on the style.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess. I like it.
Overall: a very drinkable example of the style, if a bit drier than normal. Another solid brew from Reuben's.

on-tap @ the brewery, served in traditional 'stange'

'stone fruit, crisp, bitter, refreshing'
Pretty damn excited that someone is making an altbier around here - very cloudy amber body. A nice sharp hop bite, nutty malt, fall apple. Good stuff - i see more of this in my future.
