To wit: this cream ale tastes more like a Kölsch than their own Kölsch.
Not a particularly creamy mouthfeel & a little too tart & dry to be the light yet sumptuous style it aspires to be. A perfectly fine dry pale ale (think Tetley's without a nitro pour).
But for a cream ale, Hale's down the street is safe from any usurpers.

Poured from a bomber into a tumbler on 06.18.14.
A: Mostly see through straw yellow with some haze. Thin head that recedes to a ring, which seems normal for a cream ale.
S: Flower, bubblegum, and citrus sweetness.
T: Brown sugar, wheat or grain (can't tell which) are dominant. Bubblegum is subtle.
M: Crisp. Perfect carbonation. It's very refreshing.
O: This is surprisingly, a complex cream ale. It has a really nice brown sugar sweetness that lingers. I would absolutely try this one again. It is a great cream ale by an up and coming brewery. Everything that they've brewed has been magical.
Rating: A, 95/100.

This is kind of the ideal Cream Ale, for what that's worth. Warm toasty, Shredded Wheat cereal taste. Just a kiss of hops with something resiny. There is that suggestion of cream in the flavor, plus the slight gummy taste.
Yellowish amber color in the plastic cup with plenty of suds. Perfectly drinkable with a sparkling bright mouthfeel. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at 99 Bottles in Federal Way for quite a modest price.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a light to medium straw amber with hints of gold, and a half finger white head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma is light a lager-like with light biscuit malt and hint of wheat. Flavor follows with biscuit and mildly bready malt, light grassy hops and hints of adjunct to lighly sweeten and smooth it out. Light to medium bodied. Cream ales always make me think of crafted up adjunct lagers, brewed to be mellow and smooth, but with more satisfying flavors. This hits that mark exactly. An easy drinking light lager with nice mild biscuit malt and a hint of hops. Not a style I drink a lot, but would be a clear choice if I was looking for a session ale. Reuben's does a good job even on styles made to be pedestrian.
