10th Anniversary Series: 1 of 10
In an alternate reality where Amber Ale reigns supreme, hops are still the hero.
Metamodern PNW Amber is a collaboration between Reuben’s Brews and Georgetown Brewing, the first in a series of ten collaborations released in 2022 to mark Reuben’s Brews’ 10th Anniversary. Manny Chao, co-founder of Georgetown Brewing, is responsible for some of the classic PNW beers that got our co-founder Adam Robbings started in the world of craft beer, especially his eponymous Manny’s Pale Ale. What better place to start this year of collaborations than with the brewery that literally kick-started it all for us. Cheers to great PNW beer!
Malts: Pale, Vienna, Caramel Munich, Caramel Steam, Pale Chocolate
Hops: Galaxy, Nelson, Citra

Can from The Beermongers.
A deep caramel amber with a dense, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is pure old school amber but with a modern hop character. Loaded with caramel, toffee, burnt sugar and a nice fruity hop profile, stone fruit, mild tropical fruit and citrus. The palate opens with a rather prominent malt flavor but on a light body. There's a big pine bitterness to go with flavors of burnt sugar, toffee, dark brown sugar, toasted pumpernickel bread. The mid-palate has a moderate hop character with fruit and pine, citrus, tropical fruit and a little grape. To be honest, the hop profile doesn't really work with the malt here, but it's a bold take. Drying, bitter on the finish with lingering toffee and burnt sugar. Solid.

16 oz can dated 1/06/22. I picked this up while in Oregon since I am a fan of hoppy red ales.
pours dark amber in color, cream colored head. aroma is a mix of toasted malts and mix of floral and grassy hops. similar flavors in the taste, fairly bitter hops to balance the malt flavor. but the aftertaste is a little weird. medium bodied.
overall the modern hop flavors just don't quite jive for this style

Pours a handsome clear orange-amber with plenty of foam in the Hopleaf goblet. Pleasant frothy and tangy mouthfeel. Modest aroma of straw and pine. Some nutty flavors with an alarming resiny astringency. Extremely bitter aftertaste that seems to amplify with every sip. Overall, starts like an utterly standard Amber Ale but quickly descends to an IPA with a rough hop buzz. From the 16 oz can purchased at The Cave in Kirkland. Dated 01/06/22.

Nice amber color with a touch of brown; fair carbonation; thick, dense and creamy head, white and sticky. Fine aroma; resinous with a slight spicy undertone. Excellent flavor; mild malt base with a peppery, spicy hop note; hazelnut; mild to moderate hop bitterness. Medium body; mildly abrasive on the palate; semi-dry.
A very fine ale, crisp and clean, and a nice collaborative effort with Fort George Brewing to help Reuben's celebrate their tenth anniversary.
Pouring temperature: 44 °F; canning data: PKGD 01/04/22

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark orange/light red with white head. Good lacing after the head recedes. Nose is pine, grapefruit peel, tree sap, leather, candy, toffee, hay, and a bit of wet grass. Really nice. The taste is quite hop forward. Bitter citrus peel, sweet malts, bready, pine. Mouthfeel is dry and fairly light. Overall, a good beer!

Served in 16oz Willi Becher. Poured a very lightly hazy coppery amber color with a half-inch of light tan head that had OK retention and light lacing.
The aroma had lightly sweet malts as a base and some soft, floral hops. The flavor profile was very similar, with the addition of just a bit of hop bite, especially at the back.
The body was typical, medium-ish, smooth, and with a medium-sweet finish. Drinkabilty was fine, a pleasant, easy quaff. Overall, a nice, easy drinker that's worth a shot if you see it.

Pours a crystal clear amber color. Thin velvety tan head on the beer.
Aromis really muted, but it is pretty malt diven. It has notes of caramel malts, some pine.
Taste follows the nose with notes of malts, caramel malts, pine, sap, generic citrus, with a woody bitter finish.
Feel is light to medium bodied, somewhat slick, with mild carbonation. Semi-dry finish.
Overall a very nice west coast style amber ale.

The pour is gorgeous, Russian red amber hued liquid topped by bone white head and a constant stream of carbonation rises from the bottom of the glass.
The aroma is very muted (For me that's relatively normal) but I did get a nice WC piney hop scent and some toast like malt aromas. Mild but pleasant.
The flavor follows, very evenly balanced as a red ale often is, malts do take the lead here and while they don't steal the show they certainly get the spotlight. The hops seem to be more aggressive in here than many amber/reds I've tried, which isn't a knock, simply an observation.
Mouth feel is lively and fun. kinda sets off the aggressive hop presence without diminishing the caramely/bready malts.
Thoroughly enjoyed this!

Nice looking pour, thick head, light lacing. The aroma is light bread dough, some toffee in the background. Taste is a change from most amber ales in that it's pretty dry right off. Past the hops, the roasted malt starts to come around. A very drinkable beer, probably a one-off. We're happy to have picked some up.

Pours crystal clear amber, white and silky capped head. Thin layer of froth remains, minimal lacing.
Smell is malty, sappy and a little fruity. Malt also adds a little bit of toasted aromas as well.
Taste is very different from the nose. It is mostly piney, some earthy notes, nice malt presence with some lightly toast notes.
Light to medium body, drying sappy vibes on the finish, tingling bitterness coats the tongue and remains for quite some time after the sip is gone.
Really enjoyed this beer, the hoppiness pairs very well with the malt in this one. Like biting into a hop cone and pine cone all at once.
