Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canning date is hard to read; maybe 10/20/24? This is from the 2024 Reuben’s advent calendar.

Appearance: medium golden hue with a dash of haze and a thick cap of ivory foam which leaves a nice lace on the glass.

Smell: a bit sweet, but with a nice toastiness to the malt and a big, piney hop aroma. Definitely in the West Coast mold (as the can advertises), and pretty solid!

Taste: like the aroma, there’s a moderate sweetness to the malt. The hops are piney, but also a little bit dank, minty, and perhaps even a hint musty. Nevertheless, it’s smooth, and a good example of the style.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a decent carbonation and a nice, smooth creaminess. Good!

Overall: tasty, drinkable, and not over the top like some Westies can be. I’d look for this again.

From a single tallboy, into a shaker. Pours a clear light amber with an impressive two finger head that leaves some great lacing. Green underripened melon, tropical notes (mango, maybe?) and pine is a somewhat strange combination, but that's primarily what I get. Bitterness is middling to high, body is middling, and it has a nice oily finish that coats the tongue. A very enjoyable pint.

Clear amber yellow brew with plenty of foam in the wine glass. Powerful aroma on pulling the tab: fruit and pine with honeydew melon. A little malty sweetness to start with the spritzy body. Tastes of green melon, pineapple, and green grapes. Long nose of fruit. Rather bitter aftertaste in the grand IPA tradition. I missed the memo on New Zealand hops; the label just says "we sourced the freshest hops from the Yakima Valley." From the 16 oz can purchased at Town & Country Market in Shoreline. Dated 09/20/2023.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a two finger white head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of pale malt, melon, light pine, kiwi and a little dankness. Flavor is pale malt, pine, green grape, grapefruit and melon melon with light dankness and a nice burst of resinous pine in the finish with satisfying finishing bitterness. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Always ready to try an new Reubens IPA, but a "West Coast style" with New Zealand hops seemed a bit unusual; the flavor profiles didn't seem that overlapping. I have to say this might be one of the first IPAs using Kiwi hops that I really enjoyed; the NZ hop flavors never really excited me. I probably was won over by the pine, but this also exhibits the light fruit and melon flavors I expect from those hops, but with a very nice piney element too. The pale malt is unobtrusive, but supports the hop flavors well. Nicely done.
