Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger chocolate brown head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, vanilla and hints of coffee and cocoa. Flavor is dark toasted malt, bourbon, genuine vanilla and cocoa; somewhat boozy. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess; fine mouthfeel. A bit bourbon forward, but he vanilla is near perfection by my taste: tastes like quality vanilla bean but not dominating; beautifully handled. There are faint cocoa and coffee notes and fine, dense toasted malt. Excellent creaminess. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but this may be my favorite Reuben's stout yet. A possible candidate for a year of aging to calm the bourbon, but I really like bourbon in stout, and the vanilla is so well handled, I'm quite pleased. Looks, smells, feels and tastes great.
