We brewed this special batch of Crikey IPA in celebration of the holiday season. While the essence of the beer remains the same, we dry hopped it a second time with an experimental variety to accent the piney character of the original.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium golden amber with a fine, three finger white head with great retention and rocky lacing; looks interesting. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and piney hops, orange, pine, light mixed tropical fruit; a little spicy. Flavor is caramel malt, citrus and piney hops, pine needles, grapefruit, orange, vague mixed fruit; piney, nicely bitter finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Sadly, this can ended up behind the stouts in the fridge and is a couple of months old. The hops taste a bit tired, but have a nice seasonal pine character as promised. The fine crikey origins are clear in this one. Held up satisfactorily, but I'll have to pick this up next year to taste fresh. I'm a big fan of piney IPAs.

16-ounce can purchased at Belmont Station, Portland, OR. Date stamp looks like "10/08/25". Enjoyed in a nonic half-pint glass.
The body is a clear amber-gold with a rather sudsy head of white foam with low retention but decent lacing. The nose is malty and semi-sweet, with a big gust of pine followed by oranges and something spicy and vaguely licorice-like. The flavor follows, although the hops are more citrus peel than pine at first. Notes of peach and mango mix well with the toasty semi-sweet malt before the aforementioned big gust of pine blows through the palate and sweeps everything else aside. The finishing bitterness is full of pine resin and grapefruit pith with a little earth, and it has great staying power. Overall, a nice winter-themed IPA with a satisfying amount of pine character.

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Canning date is hard to read; maybe 10/21/24? This is from the 2024 Reuben's advent calendar.
Appearance: pale golden hue with a mostly-clear body and a thick head of frothy ivory foam atop.
Smell: sweet, somewhat caramelly malt with a pronounced pine-and-lemon hop character. An absolute Westy!
Taste: much like the aroma, there’s plenty of sweetness here, and the pine-lemon-floral character is bordering on perfume, but stops just short. Almost like a Canadian floral gum candy. Actually not bad at all!
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a kinda surprisingly nice creaminess. I dig it.
Overall: a pretty solid IPA! Somewhere between a West Coast IPA and an English pale ale, with a handful of sugar thrown in the mix. Ho-ho-ho!
