Brewed with cocoa, chili, and spices, this brew is both sustenance and ceremony. The Xocolatl Stout pays tribute to the origins of chocolate in Mesoamerican culture with layers of rich cocoa, roasted malt, and warming spice for a bold yet balanced beer.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew small snifter. Pours a fizzy, very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a brief, thin milk chocolate head that dissipates to very sparse patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, Mexican chocolate, green pepper and some hot pepper burn. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt with light char, Mexican chocolate (lightly sweetened chocolate and cinnamon), green and hot pepper; mild to moderate pepper heat that lingers for a short while. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess, nice mouth feel. An excellent Mexican inspired chocolate stout. The chocolate flavor is authentic to the bars I've had in Mexico, with perhaps a little less heat. The aroma was so hot pepper forward, I had a little trepidation on my first sip, but the heat is well tamed, but noticeable, which enhanced the chocolate character. Light cinnamon; overall well balanced and quite enjoyable. Mouth feel is creamy and well done. Perhaps a tad tame, but delicious.
