a decent pale ale here, a little rough and ready, tasty and not quite amateur, but hazy and a little denser to drink than i generally look for in a pale ale, especially from this part of the world, but its fresh and still bright, a little different i suppose, and a fine pizza beer, which most are, but that might flatter it some. murky real light rust or darker honey colored with an average white head from the tap, good carbonation helps lighten the look and feel, and relatively simple in the aroma. cut citrus and pine needles, to me quite northwestern, but the bitterness never really comes, a neat sort of quick stop on the hops to me, somewhat pungent, dry hoppy, maybe citra and simcoe in here, not sure on varietals but its certainly not exotic. a little more malt than i think i was expecting, light toast to it and some body, maybe slightly messy on the ferment, but not off or anything, just less refined than it could be. the flavor is similar, spruce and orange to me, lightly grassy and with a bit more bitterness than it smells like it has, but its so well balanced by the fuller grain, nice equilibrium here. some yeastiness as it warms, light lemongrass and even green tea as well, slightly english to me on the grain side, richer crystal anyway, but not too sweet overall. fine pale ale, nothing special, small timey but serviceable.
