Very roasty malt aroma, cocoa, almost coffee, sweet.

Flavor is fairly sweet, but chocolatey and roasty at the finish, dry, not bitter. Almost vanilla sweetness.

Proving that characterful, complex and smooth stout can be achieved without carrying the brunt, fatigue or weight of imperial status beers, Opera Cream uses the same coffee based stout that gives Blank Slate an edge in the Ohio brewing valley.

Very dark brown and just a shade from black, the stout carries dark-roasted coffee aspirations with a comfortably silky weave and a creamy latte froth to adorn the rim. High coffee aromatics entice the nose with a robust, roasty and earthy scent. With a background of bittersweet chocolate, candied walnuts and fresh-ground coffee, the early palate is sultry, silky and smoothly roasty.

And as its confectionate sweetness unfolds on the tongue, the underpinnings of pulled candy and a kiss of vanilla cream give the toasty, roasty edge its balance and its velvety texture. As the ale finishes with hints of tiramisu, its mocha latte character is profound just not overstated.

Softly bittered in finish, its hop profile to finish is easily sold as coffee-like and earthy with a hint of smoky chocolate dancing delicately behind. Medium-full for stout, the beer's body is somber and uncommonly drinkable without any thinning or watering properties. Its a wonderful stout that doesn't oversell itself.
