Vivid in its fruit and spice ale-induced whimsy but then deep, rich and obscure with lager-like bock-isms, the enigma that is weizenbock finds its way into the Blank Slate brewhouse to delight their fans with decadence, complexity, and an unexpected ease in drinkability.
Deep in garnet and burgundy saturation, the ale's creamy froth towers above the beer in a creamy and fluid foam stance. Rich aromatics share the perfume of dark fruit, candy sweetness, clove, wine, copper and pepper. With the question of bubblegum working into the mindset, the first sip tilts heavily toward the malts with the sweetness of hard candy, earthen fruit and cola.
Toasty and sweet, the malts remain steadfast on the middle palate and saturate it fully with french toast, caramel and dark fruit. Red grape, plum, currant, blackberry and light prune carry a raisiny tone across a balance of fresh-cracked peppercorn, clove and vinous red wine. The light taste of oily port wine provide a decadently sweet taste that's a delight for those with an unapologetic sweet tooth.
Bready in both taste and texture, the full-bodied beer seeps deeply into the tastebuds and lulls them into a malty spell as a tangy dark fruit acidity and peppery spice takes just enough of a sweet impact away to save the session from a cloying mouthfeel. Finishing lightly bitter, spicy and tart, the impressions of individual flavors seem endless and revolves around sweetness.
