The first beer in Blank Slate's "Traveling IPA" series. Autumn is a time of change and mother nature is at a fork in the road as the bright summer gives way to fall's darker colors. This beer sits squarely at the fork where darker malts and brighter hops meet. Munich and CaraRed malts give it an amber color and bigger malt presence than a standard IPA. Generous amounts of Citra and Centennial hops remind you that it's still an "India" style beer nonetheless.

``India Style Amber Ale'' brewed with Citra, Centennial, and Cascade Hops. The pour is dark amber in color, slightly hazy, and sports 2 fingers of off-white foam with above average retention. I get fresh toast, marmalade, and lemony hops on the nose.
Medium-light body with a firm feel and a balanced flavor. Toasted malt up front is complemented by a moderate hop bill that brings pleasant flavors of lemon, grapefruit, and cedar. All three hop varietals seem detectable (unfortunately), but they're not overly prominent or out of balance.
Overall an above-average American Amber Ale, but not what I would call an IPA. I was hoping this beer would be a worthy opponent of Nugget Nectar, but it isn't. The beer is extremely well-balanced, but I just don't find the hop profile to my liking. There isn't enough fruity, citrusy bitterness and far too much of a soapy bitterness, likely from the use of Cascade hops. This beer might taste better to those who don't object to Cascade hops the way I do (Cascade is a noxious weed says I).

12 Fl. OZ. can
Served in a tulip glass
This beer pours a brilliant rust color with copper highlights. It is topped with three plus inches of tan head that coats the inside of the glass as it recedes.
It has toasty and spicy notes with a nice citrus balance.
The toasted malt stands up nicely to the citrusy hops refreshing yet substantial.
Medium and very smooth mouthfeel
This IPA is a nice change of pace. It really captures the mood of fall in an IPA without being in your face. It is just a nice easy drinker.

What a nice surprise...to my unsophisticated palette this is a malty autumn styled IPA. Not sure I am getting the hops as much as I might like, but still, I'm impressed. My second canned beer from these folks...keep up the good work Blank Slate.

Look - Great dark amber color with a great head and good lacing
Smell - great fruity toasty smell
Taste - great toasty slightly fruit taste with a good amount of bitterness
Feel - lacking some body and carbonation
Overall great beer that could be thickened up and added more carbonation
