750 mL bottle, best before 12/30/2013

Pale amber color, somewhat cloudy. Pours a biggish white head, with some creaminess and retention.

Earthy, mineral nose to start, more hop and/or yeast character than malt in the aroma.

Nice hit of malt sweetness to balance out the coarse, earthy hop flavor at the start. Quite hoppy and slightly bitter into the finish. Somewhat unpleasant hop bitterness lingers. Earthiness really overpowers things here after a promising start to the flavor profile.

MF - Medium body and carbonation. No astringency or warming.

Overall - In some ways has a hyper-british character that I don't like. Got this bottle for free, and honestly doubt I will finish it. Not a pleasant drink for me.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy amber color ale with a large enough head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of dry grainy malt with light cereal notes is pleasant enough. Taste is also dominated by grainy notes with nice cereal notes and light dry bitter hops. Body is full enough for style with good carbonation. Not much complexity but nice presence of cereal notes and good drinkability level.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a slightly hazy light coppery amber with tiny particles suspended and a thick, fine off-white head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of bready malt, apricots, grassy, slightly floral European hops. Flavor is biscuit malt, light apple family fruit, apricot with grassy hops finishing into a lingering earthy grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Interesting balance of apple and apricot juice with grassy hops and herbal bittering. The biscuit malt is appropriately English and the fruit character pushes the envelope on traditional pale ales and ESBs. Pleasant and different. The finish is slightly astringent with earthy herbal bitterness in addition to the hops, which is slightly unbalanced. Nicely enough made to encourage me to try other ales from this brewery.

Taste... herbal, bitterness appears soon lasting all the time,
Mouthfeel... medium body and medium/soft carbonation
Overall... a nice ale, bitterness is present in a decent style with a dry finish
