No way this beer is retired. Just got a bottle.
A - Pours copper in color and somewhat translucent. Two finger very light tan head.
S - Very oaky, bitter and a bit vegetable.
T - Bitter, twangy, hoppy, oaky elements.
M - Thin body and medium carbonation. Easy drinking for the abv, can't really taste the alcohol.
O - It has the makings to be much more than what was brought to the table.

On tap at the Rose & Crown in Palo Alto. This was brewed at PABC's old brewing site, Devils Canyon, and will be brewed at Firehouse, where PABC is now brewing, in the future.
a - pours a deep ruby color, one-finger ivory head, decent lacing and retention for such a big beer, fairly clear with only mild sediment
s - this opens up immensely as it warms, lots of caramel, brown sugar, charred oak and bourbon mixed with some orange notes from the hops, the booze is definitely in there, hints of apple as well
t - fairly sweet up front but not overly so, much like the aroma, lots of caramel, brown sugar and oak mixed with a subtle red delicious apple/cider flavor, the mid-palate and finish have a milder sweetness with a nice citrus hop bitterness, mostly orange and tangerine, adding some backbone to the maltiness, hint of charred oak and bourbon on the finish, the booze is definitely there, but I would not guess it's anywhere near 13.3% abv, I'd call it a hybrid American/English barleywine taste-wise
m - medium-to-full bodied, moderate carbonation, fairly dry on the finish for the style, which I prefer, lots of alcohol warming on the palate
d - definitely a sipper, but I'll give it high marks for hiding the alcohol so well and its overall complexity, certainly a dangerous beer, as I found out after only one snifter on an empty stomach, relatively easy on the palate for the style
Overall, a superb effort from an emerging brewery. Kasim, the brewer, said the recipe will likely be tweaked with each release, so I look forward to the next batch.
