On-tap at the Rose & Crown. Served in a tulip.
A - Tan foam settles to a thin cap and splotchy lace. Very dark brown body.
S - Shaved coconut, vanilla, lactic sourness, a hint of funky tropical fruits, and a faint hint of tobacco (or is that the smokers on the patio?). Bourbon is quite light, with oaken barrel showing up more. I'm guessing this barrel has been used a couple times?
T - The taste has less sourness, but with more roasted malts and toasted coconut flavors. There's some oaky vanilla and a tad more bourbon than I detected in the aroma. No alcohol presence, although I'm guessing this is pretty close to the base beer's 6.4%.
M - Medium bodied, with lower carbonation. Texture is quite creamy mid-palate before yielding to a dry, tannic coconut finish.
D - The 25cl pour was sufficient, but this was better than I expected. It delivers exactly what it promised and did so in a balance and fairly well-integrated manner - it's just not a collection of flavors I ever considered wanting in the past.
