Pours a light amber color with a medium off-white head. A sparkling taste from carbonation with notes of bread dough and a slight citrus taste. For me this is too light for a Red Ale. I like a stronger malt taste in an Amber/Red Ale. Decent beer but nothing special. Had at Mahoney's. 20 IBUs Rated 2-11-2023

 

 

Draft at the Handlebar. Clear amber pour, thin skin of fine bubbles. Malty aroma, caramel. Taste is sweet, malty, brown bread, toasty. Light dry finish.

this might be my first beer from these guys that isnt some flavored thing, which really is what they seemed to be making their name doing, so i was stoked to see a more straightforward beer on tap last night. this has a rusty orange to light copper color to it, not as deep as a lot of reds but not hurting for flavor or depth either, crowned by an average inch of lasting white head, a fine looking pint. the nose on this is great, really fresh, nutty, and without too much sweetness, i get neat malt layers from soft pretzel to light toffee, its bready and toasted and sort of crusty in that way, some minerals come through, and the hops are there too, lightly piney, good balance to this, tidy. the flavor is similar, dry for the style, with some earthiness to the malt rather than sugar, a kilned sort of vibe, biscuit notes, and more bitterness than flavor from the hops but still fairly reserved, they hit at the exact right moment before the swallow. this has a lighter medium body and is super drinkable, its not too robust for delicate food like sushi but its not boring either, still plenty of character, and the freshness really stands out to me. very clean on the fermentation, light on the residual sweetness, a well made amber type. i like this side of backwoods, would like to drink some more of their more basic offerings. this restored my faith in them a little bit...

Creamy and slightly undulating, lasting, ivory head. Clear and deep, medium orange, with medium amber highlights. Medium roasted and quite caramelized malt aroma, with a slight hint of pumpkin pie spice (mace?). A good amount of light toast woodiness that provides a bite, over a medium toasted malt base. This beer also leaves a veritable wall of lacing, all the way up the side of the glass.

Look: Opaque amber in color with a quick-forming off-white head that settles quickly to a lid, leaving good lacing on the glass
Aroma: Toffee, caramel, warm bread, and some light earthy notes
Taste: Caramel slathered bread hits hard out of the gate as more bready malt, dough, and some light earthiness starts to work in. Toffee is present but muted, especially compared to the caramel and closes as it started, with bready malt and caramel
Mouthfeel: Full, smooth throughout, medium-high carbonation, and a somewhat soft finish
Overall: I dig it. A very nice American Amber with good bready malt, lots of caramel along with some sweetness and enough subtle hops to keep it from being sweet. Another winner from an underrated brewery in my opinion and though not an ‘exciting’ style, has its place and is hitting the spot right now
