Nice malty aroma with a hop forward taste. A little bitterness, but not overly strong. A little sweetness from the malt. Had in a 22oz bottle and looking in the bottle I noticed not much head on the beer. Mouthfeel was medium. A good Red Ale, not great, but good. This is more of a NW Red than a standard Red. 50 IBUs Rated 6-18-2019

Pours a deep chestnut with a generous tan head that hangs around and sticks to the glass as it slowly recedes. Aroma is malty with some herbal/floral hop notes. The taste has some mild malt sweetness and some bitter citrus characteristics. The finish is somewhat bitter. Body is thin to medium with a little stickiness.

Big Cedar IRA! Pours borderline stout in color. Sweet, fruity aroma, followed up with a deep and strong flavor. Slightly bitter, with a hint of barrel-aged flavor (even if it wasn't barrel aged). Fairly decent all around. Worth picking up.

Hazy red gold with three fingers of tan head that really lasts. Rings of lace appear as the head drops.
Smell is pungent hop oils. Some minor grapefruit zest.
Taste dank oily hops with just enough malt sweetness for the style. A bit of grapefruit on the back of the tongue.
Mouthfeel is medium with strong carbonation. Finish is slightly dry with a long bitter finish.
Overall an interesting beer style.

This beer was purchased at a grocery across the river from the brewery. Smells good. Tastes like a seaweed salad. Would go great with a poke bowl but not good around a campfire, where I am drinking it now.

Two week old bottle. Was expecting more aroma on this fresh bottle. Taste is definitely of the earthy, dank, and muddy hops which is a welcome departure from all the citrusy hopped beers. Has a nice rich mouthfeel and is quite enjoyable.

Bottle from On the Fly Gasmart. Pours out murky reddish brown with huge fluffy head. Pure malt aroma, taste brings in some hops on the back end, adding some bite to malts, but making me question the amber ale listing. Smooth hop finish, slightly dry finish.

Backwoods Brewing Company Big Cedar India Style Red Ale. 6.5% abv.
A: looks really dark but has a distinct redness to it with light shining through. It’s a deep red, a great color actually. I’d like to paint with it. Head doesn’t last, forms a small ring around the top of the beer.
S: herbal hoppiness, maybe some grain sugar.
T: almost lemony sourness and bitterness, herbal hops, backed by not so sweet dark but not roasty malt. This is a bitter beer. I like it, but not everyone will.
M: thin but leaves sugary syrup on the tongue and teeth (and mustache, if you’ve got one) like other sugary dark grainy beer does. Bitterness lingers on the tongue too.
O: good. Bitter. This is a big beer, could be more alcoholic for how slow you have to take it. Not a session ale but nice as a warmer on this cooler day. Not a big fan of glorifying the logging industry with brewing iconography but there are a lot more problematic things being celebrated by beer labels so I think it’s probably OK.
