Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and slight mint-like aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and mint-like flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that has a definite mint-like presence that is unexpected.

The pour is almost black in color with a khaki head. The nose starts off with roasted malt, a bit of nut shells, and lots of licorice. There’s a bit of black tea, some cocoa, and mild coffee. The flavor is just full of licorice and fennel notes. As with the aroma a touch of black tea, a minty toothpaste flavor, and some roasted malt and coffee. Not awful, but just not very well done either.
