The beer is pitch black with a thick foamy head. The beer has that typical sweet smell of a milk stout, a mixture of chocolate milk and that roasted coffee. My first taste was super chocolate an tasted awesome, as the beer settled it evened out a little more, got a little more of the bitterness to balance out the sweetness. The beer seemed a little flat and somewhat sticky.

This beer just tasted awful. Smoky, salty, savory flavor that tasted like someone had poured low-sodium soy sauce into my beer. It was also very poorly carbonated and almost flat. This taste was noticed by my two companions I came into the brewery with as well. I can not recommend this beer to anyone.

On nitro tap at Chino Valley Brewery in Ontario, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and vanilla aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that has a better flavor in my opinion.

On-tap at Chino Valley
The pour is black with a creamy tan head. A nice sweetness on the nose followed by roasted malt, burnt sugar, and a mild licorice aroma. Some hints of chocolate and coffee are present as well. The sweetness of the lactose really dominates. Overall, the flavor is mildly watery, but it does have some good roasted malt, a mild coffee note, and some cocoa and chocolate. Easily the best beer available, but that’s not saying much.
