"A light, pleasing ale made especially for a hot summer's day, this beer is brewed in the traditional German kolsch style. A touch of wheat gives the brew a creamy body, and a German Hersbrucker hops add a mellow flavor to the finish. The Golden goes well with the Chicken Caesar or the Artichoke Mushroom Linguini."

On draft at Bailey's, Portland, Oregon.

Poured a light straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and very good lacing.

The smell featured a biscuity malt and herbal noble hop.

The taste consisted of upfront doughy malts followed by a drying noble hop zest.

The mouthfeel was full for the style.

Overall a very tasty, well balanced and super easy to drink ale. Seemingly authentic.

Appearance – This one is a light, brilliant orange in color with a modest head. The glass was pretty full so it was hard to properly gauge the head, but the liquid was wonderful to stare at.

Smell – There’s a big, malty base to this one along with some good spicing. The sweet, grainy aroma is complimented with a hint of wheat. The grassy hops are perceptible but weak.

Taste – This guy lightens up at the taste, although the wheat flavor dominates the grain and hops.

Mouthfeel – This light-bodied ale is creamy with a flat texture in the mouth.

Drinkability – This ABA is very smooth. It is a bit unusual but a fairly drinkable version of the style.

Comments – They add wheat to their recipe to give the beer a blended flavor and an overall smooth mouthfeel.

Siskiyou Golden Ale was served off the tap at the Alameda Brewpub. In the sample glass, the beer was golden, and was topped by an ample white head. The nose was bright and lively with a lightly spicy, citric zesty hoppiness and a subtle maltiness. The taste was rather nice and developed for a lawnmower beer, consisting of a light honeyish malt base and interesting citric-zesty and floral notes. The mouthfeel was excellent for flavors and feel of the beer...full, smooth and creamy, without being sluggish for a refreshing lighter beer. Golden/Blonde ales rarely make an impression on me, but this one was pretty good.

This is a light bodied summery ale with a thin head, malty nose, and a bitter finish. I am sorry to report that this brew is not Alameda’s best effort. The aroma is like tap water and the carbonation weak. In fact, the head vanishes quickly and leaves no lace at all. The taste lacks authority and hangs heavy on the tongue like a wet cloth.

I hate to put down my local neighborhood brewer, but it’s gotta be said -- this one tastes like Alka Seltzer in a Michelob.
