Walked in a grove of poplar trees with this one on 1/8/2005. 16-oz. pint pour at Redbones, post-volunteer meeting.
Barely film covering with a piling of big bubble action at the center. Burgundy brown hue with a heart of deep ruby. More malt on nose than anything else, but there are some hits of smoke and char with just a side of wheat, or dewy grass. Crank malt at the top of the mouth, but surprisingly little body follows on the mouth. Creamy mouthfeel, almost buttery, but not approaching a Newcastle. Overall, I find this to be a little too loose.

Served on nitro at the brewpub, this beauty came with a deep, slightly dense brown body and a delicious tan nitro foam cap.
The aroma, possibly trapped underneath all that foam, just wasn't compelling. It smelled like a typical nitro pour with that little bit of sour malt.
The taste was really nice, but the texture was fantastic. It sipped smoothly, swam over the tongue, and disappeared down my throat. It left behind a nice nutty and tart malt flavor, and the initial taste was of slightly roasted malt.
This is one of the better nut browns in Portland.
