Hoppy porter light mouth feel but smooth with a soft lingering cocoa flavor. great summer dark beer without compromising well roundedness

Another growler that arrived at my house courtesy of cavedave and via the New Beer Sunday Beer It Forward.
Poured from the growler into an oversized snifter.
Magnificent foamy head, dark-khaki in color forms above a pitch-black, imperial stout-looking body. Lace is plentiful and leaves streaks and islets above the liquid. 5
I like that smell. Lots of dark chocolate and plums and prunes. Imperial stout like here as well as far as the roasty, chocolatey factor, but there's clearly a strong, sweet floral aroma of lilies that suggests some Belgian character. Cherry aromas are a nice complement to the chocolate. It's a cordial of sorts. 4.5
The nose set the tongue up well. Great consistency from one to the other. Still getting a delicious blend of dark chocolate, cherry, plum and floral pepperiness. Interestingly there's something about the blend of flavors and spices that reminds me a bit of a Dr. Pepper or root beer or perhaps a hybrid of the two. 4.25
It's got plenty of floral feel - bubbliness, spice and a lively mid-palate. The body is somewhere between light and medium which along with the expressive carbonation reminds me a bit of soda. I'd perhaps care for a bit more body given the rich chocolatey malt qualities, but otherwise this just drinks excellently. 4
What a pleasant treat of a beer. I don't know if cavedave was studying my tastes before sending or if he's simply a mind-reader but I love the Belgian Dark Strong Ales and this fits right in with others I've loved. Delicious.
