First: I got a half-growler of this at Olivers in Albany, which identified it as a Black IPA/Cascadian Dark Ale. Needless to say, when I got home and poured it, I was surprised, as this is not a Black IPA at all. . . . It also makes me wonder whether they had the ABV correct, but I've entered what they had listed.
OK, on to the review. . . .
A: Poured from the half-growler into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. Body is slightly hazy dark golden with a thin film of whitish head.
S: Dank and earthy hops with some citrus. Decent nose, but certainly not a big, in-your-face scent.
T: Biscuity, bready malt foundation, then modest hops - earthy, leafy, with some tropical fruit (Mango & pineapple) and a touch of citrus (lemon, maybe grapefruit peel). Finishes with a clean balance, but there's a slight lingering bitterness on the roof of the mouth.
M: Nice feel to this one - call it lighter side of medium in heft, with a nice light-bubbled carbonation.
O: Good stuff - an easy, "clean"-drinking beer. Won't blow you away, but an enjoyable, lighter-but-flavorful offering for the summer.
