I had this on draught at the brewery. Pint pour. It pours a dark cola with a half finger of khaki-colored head and a thin sheen of lacing with really good retention. The nose is rather subdued; mostly sweet malt, raisin, chocolate, and nuts. The taste largely follows the nose but the flavors are more pronounced. There is a solid malt base with raisin and another dark fruit (currant or fig), chocolate, and a nutty, bitter finish. As the glass warmed, the chocolate and fruit was more pronounced. This ale has a medium body, with pleasant carbonation, and at 6.5% ABV a second pour is no problem. This is really a delightful English Ale. And it's fun to drink in Rushing Duck's wonderful "Duck Out" taproom.

Color is in the tawny, sepia, blood orange range of spectrum. Dynamic red on edges and a denser brown towards the middle. Cake like tan head that's gone in a blink.

Aroma is a blend of black mission figs, vanilla, raisins, resiny hops, almonds, black cherry, and chocolate; so, it's sweet and fruity.

Low carbonation with a dry bite on the finish. Dense and chewy body.

Tastes like rich toffee and bittersweet chocolate. Fruity, nutty, and woodsy-sweet flavors representing blackberry, figs, black plums, cardamom, and star anise.

Overall, the flavors really remind me of Christmas without the seeming addition of spices and such. Lacks a bit of the warmth I'd prefer for the Winter season. Would be good with a rich cheese or something spicy like hot soppressata. Flavors remind me of Christmas.
