A: Sepia, nice complexity. Light tan head.
S: Spiced sugar plums. Pine needles and sap. Woodsy and floral like a kola nut. English toffee malt.
M: Smooth, slick. Light carbonation.
Bourbon is really in the background, and with the addition of vanilla beans I get the impression of spiced rum. Notes of black currant, figs, and chocolate malt rounds out the palate.

This is a variant of Maltivore. I had it on draught at the brewery. A 12 oz. pour served in a tulip glass. It pours a very dark cola color with a half finger of ecru colored head, which dissipated quickly, and lacing which retained its integrity through the pour. The nose features roasted malt, plum or cranberry, and vanilla. There's a lot more to the taste: chocolate, peat, dark fruit, and vanilla with noticeable but subdued bourbon. It's surprisingly delicate. As the glass warmed, the vanilla became more apparent. This ale is medium-bodied and lightly carbonated, and I barely noticed the 7.4% ABV. Overall, this is a well-crafted, and thoroughly enjoyable barrel-aged English Strong Ale. Rushing Duck is very adept at brewing such an ambitious beer. This is absolutely first rate!
