A collaboration with Valkyrie Coffee Roasters in Chester, NY. We added their Brazilian Salmo Plus Microlet to our Ded Moroz. With strawberries on the nose, it has a rich, fudgy, smooth coffee taste.

Cherry cola brown pour direct from crowler. Pours with the clarity of coffee and not necessarily the pofundity of an RIS. Small khaki head that settles rather quickly. Medium roast aroma...mainly sweetness in the realm of fruit jelly filled chocolates. Fig and light spiciness as well. Flavor also open up fairly sweet: stroopwaffel, concord grape jam filling, strawberry-blackberry medley atop. Very rich chocolate flavor. Oak shavings, vanilla and leather finish. The herbal vivacity and earthier flavors stop the sweetness from floating too high. Body is full but appropriate, slightly sticky but smooth with a refreshing carbonation/acidity. Touch of alcohol warmth is spot on like a dash of cayenne on your hot chocolate. Another outstanding yet unpretentious brew from RD.

On draught at the brewery. An inky, black pour with dark cola hues, and a creamy, light khaki head and sheen of lacing. The smell features roasted malt, freshly-brewed coffee, chocolate, and and berry. As the glass warms there are also notes of oats, vanilla, and tobacco. It's highly fragrant. The taste opens with graham cracker, strong fresh coffee, and dark chocolate. Then, as it warms in the glass I am tasting dark fruit, tobacco, and earthy char. The finish is slightly bitter and the tastes blend very well. The taste is bolder than the base Ded Moroz. Its mouth feel is moderately viscous with a pleasant level of carbonation, and the 11.2% ABV is warming but not distracting. Overall, Valkyrie is a wonderful variant of Ded Moroz with lots of flavor. It's really enjoyable. Rushing Duck excels at big stouts like this.
