Reviewed 2 weeks after can release. Poured into a tulip glass. It pours a bright amber-orange with a frothy, ecru-colored head that fizzled away quickly. A very fragrant smell with raisin, apple, brown sugar, caramel/toffee, and a whiff of honey. The taste follows with big flavors of raisin and and stone fruit. I'm also tasting honey covered brown bread, brown sugar, caramel, and earthy char. There is solid, lingering bitterness. The mouth feel is liter than I anticipated and the carbonation level is higher. The 12.8% ABV is warming. Overall, The Valley of Gwangi is a very solid English Barleywine that has the bitterness of its American cousin.
