Haven't written a review in a month of Sundays, but since this beer was so unique and only had 1 review, I thought I might give it a whirl again.

Poured from a 32oz. growler into a tulip.

A: Very rich-looking mahogany, like polished amber wood. Clear as day given the dark hues.

S: Piney hops & alcohol dominate the nose. A hint of honeyed sweetness lingers in the background as I get to glass 2, warmed a bit.

T: At first, I was a bit put off by the up front presence of booze, but it improved with each sip. At times it reminded me of a fresh, fresh, fresh SN Bigfoot - you know, that big, hoppy American barley style. At other times it was less aggressive and showed liquid rum raisin/bread-like qualities. At no time did the hops take a back seat though, for such a high-alcohol ale, the taste is equal parts bitterness & malts.

M: Very low carbonation, a bit syrupy, though for once (for me) it doesn't really detract from the overall enjoyment of the beer.

O: Solid offering, not sure how frequently I'd look to this, but I'm glad I got to give it a shot. Major detractor is the booziness. Major plus is the hops/malt balance. B+

Rushing Duck celebrated it's 1 year anniversary by releasing this Triple IPA (beefed up version of Naysayer Pale Ale) for samples / 32oz growler fills on Saturday.

Appearance: Pours russet orange with surprisingly exceptional clarity and a massive yellow hop oil stained 3 finger crown that shows moderate retention and loads of lace.

Smell: Some citrus fruit (orange, grapefruit) with some sweet fruit (candied grapefruit from cascade hops I think), only a hint of grass, and some alcohol sweetness. The hop aroma profile is nice but I'd like more from a triple IPA.

Taste: Same as nose. Not very bitter for a triple IPA. I'd guess it's in the 65-75 ibu range. Sweetness from both the high alcohol content and some honey malt really helps to balance the hops.

Mouthfeel: Light side of medium carbonation with a somewhat thick body.

Overall: Some extra bitterness, more hop aroma, and a touch thinner body would go a long way with this brew. That aside, it's still sad to think this isn't scheduled to be brewed again. Quite a tasty hop forward high alcohol concoction from the fine folks at Rushing Duck! I like this one better than this years War Elephant, but not as much as last years War Elephant.
