The first in our Limited Release serie will be the Wheat Wine. This Beer is based on a homebrew recipe from the Brew Bubbas (www.BrewBubbas.com). It is a Barleywine that has wheat as the majority of its grain bill. It is very rich and smooth to drink.
This beer was brewed with 51% wheat and 49% barley. We used 300 lbs of torrified wheat for just 100 gallons of beer. The torrified wheat fermented out clear and gave the beer a very smooth rich flavor and produced a fruity aroma. This is definitely a unique and different flavor in a beer.

22 oz bottle pours a clear copper color with a very small off white head, even with an aggressive pour...sounded like a weak hiss upon cracking the crown.
Nose is laden with caramely malts, fairly sweet and plenty of fruit - cherries and plums. Alcohol is pretty big on the nose too. Not much wheat or hops, which is concerning.
Taste shows a thin malt profile and body with some toast and sweet malts laying on top of a watery base with some fusel alcohols. Hops provide some bitterness, but there is no hop flavor whatsoever and there is not really a crisp, snappy wheat presence. All that said, it is not drain pour horrible, but it is not one I care to revisit. I dont think anyone would guess wheatwine when tasting it, nor is it rich and malty enough for a barleywine. Maybe American Strong Ale would fit, but not a very good one.

Another winner from a small brewery that's big on taste and body. This beer is almost plum colored, orange with notes of amber and red, mostly clear, head and lace were a bit lacking but there was ample carbonation. Aroma has big plum and fruity notes, some crispy hops, and plenty of solid malty backbone. Flavor follows suit, with plenty of balancing bitterness and some hops flavors (lots of floral on the hops), and a good solid maltiness,
It's billed as a barleywine with lots of wheat, and I think this is a pretty good description, although it's way too mellow for most barleywines, and thus wheatwine is the proper category. Being a fan of both styles and this brewery, I took a chance and bought two bombers today. Definitely worth it, once again they made a very flavorful and enjoyable beer.
