23 June 2020 - Beer #127
Corona Day #103
Price: $15.00 at the Plank Pizza Co. Beer Parlor in Saddle Brook, NJ.
Appearance: 4 – beautiful, fluffy, frothy brown head. The beer itself looks a bit too thin and brown.
Nose: 3 – I don’t get much of anything, maybe a little chocolate. A drop of coffee. No barrel at all.
Taste: 4 – plenty of flavor here, actually, and it’s blended together very well. I cannot pick out any individual flavors, but this sure is tasty.
Mouth: 5 – this is where the beer really shines. The milk sugar really takes over making it silky smooth and frothy.
Overall: 4 – I have yet to be impressed by a Bolero Snort beer, but I’m holding out hope. I still have the base Bergen County Stout and two more variants to try.
Stay safe out there, my friends.
Cheers!

Pours jet black with a very fast dissipating mocha colored head. Head is gone in 1 minute. Smell is reminiscent of Chocolate, old leather, vanilla, stone fruit? Some barrel notes. Taste cocoa, vanilla, caramel, some soy sauce? Feels full bodied, viscous, chewy. This is a big beer and they won't let you forget that fact. Ethanol is obvious, along with feeling like you are eating this brew rather than drinking it. Never had a White Russian so I can't compare that aspect. Because there is lactose added I am not sure this qualifies as American Imperial stout. Overall a taste sensation with the unfortunate (in my opinion) chewiness. Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels are a bonus.

On tap at blend.
LOOK: Big off white head. Dark black.
AROMA: Vanilla and Coffee; White Russian is spot on.
TASTE: Wine, milk chocolate, vanilla. Fig.
FEEL: Flat.
The Dude abides.
