A- Tallboy pours a black bodied brew into a tulip glass. The foamy cap peaks at one finger high before falling down fairly quickly to a medium ring around the edges of the top of the beer. Spotty lacing.
S- A lot of roasted malts, chocolate notes and dark roast coffee leading the aroma with hints of the other adjuncts in the backdrop. Definitely getting some spicy, earthy cinnamon, a moderate hit of ginger and just a bit of the nutmeg and clove. The tiniest hint of vanilla behind the roastiness.
T- Much more spice forward than the aroma and in the end it is spicy but not too spicy where you lose the essence of the base beer or it overpowers the taste buds. Ginger and spicy cinnamon leads off with earthiness to it. Immediately the coffee comes in behind that with chocolate and roast barley notes. Vanilla in the very backdrop. The aroma was hearty but somehow I have to describe the flavor as thin or a bit watered down feeling, just lacks depth and overall strength. Raisin, cola, brown sugar and nutty hints as well.
MF- Light-medium bodied and comes off a bit thin for the style, ABV and bold flavors presented as the texture is just a bit foamy and lacks a rich creaminess. Carbonation is at a moderate level and there is a light spicy, roasty bitterness in the finish.
I wish I had a better description but it is one of those beers that just tastes a bit diluted somehow. There are a lot of nice flavors and the balance is pretty good between the roast malts and the adjuncts but it just lacks depth and that signature forward flavor to center the beer's flavor profile.

DATE: April 24, 2020... OCCASION: watching Day 2 of the NFL Distance Draft before the family watches The Rise of Skywalker on DVD.... this one comes two seasons after I first sipped it at the Penn State/Indiana tailgate--warm memories with this one... pours an impressively dark, opaque body that sports a two-fingered light beige head, thick and resilient... its aroma arrives with burnt coffee beans, vanilla, sweet lactic milk, and the trappings of winter holidays--cinnamon, clove, and of course, ginger... a nice, busy aroma to introduce itself... the first sip is equal parts frothy and gritty, creamy at its introduction, firm in its mouthfeel, and coffee-esque in its finish... worthwhile and substantial at its 7% ABV... its flavor is a pleasant merging of vanilla, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and roasted coffee... the profile isn't clean, but it is relaxing and enjoyable on a wet, cool night such as this--even if the holidays are months in the rearview...

The aroma was dark black coffee, roasted malt, espresso, dark roasted coffee beans, bakers dark chocolate. There was some ginger, brown sugar, molasses
Taste really followed the aroma on this one. Everything coffee, wife took a sip, curled up her face and said it was the most bitter beer she ever had. Again it was everything coffee and dark chocolate could bring to the taste. I really enjoyed the intense flavors but the ginger was a little weak in comparison
I would definitely try it again as I thought it was really well done
