Bolero Snort Brewery "Hooffa"
12 fl. oz. can coded "No Bones 3/1/21". Sampled on 5/14/21
$1.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: Well this is certainly dark for a Pilsner. It's beyond deep gold and into amber territory. It's clear though, and the head is a nice creamy cap of slightly off-white. The aroma is floral, spicy, and lightly grassy over a grainy malt base. It's clean and bright and welcoming. On to the taste... it's grainy, bitter, spicy, floral, and grassy. Those are all of the components you need but it's not coming together very well for me. Unfortunately I don't think that's something I can explain but I'll try. I guess I generally expect to get malt and then hops and then bitterness followed by a dry and hoppy finish. What I'm getting here seems to be bitter malt, floral and spicy character, and then a dry finish but with some malt lingering a bit as well, a spritz of lemon, and then lingering grassiness. I think it might be suffering from too many flavor hops, and a little bit of an elevated bitterness. It seems spiky as opposed to rounded in my opinion. Take that as you will, but I don't mean to imply that this is a bad Pilsner by any means, it just doesn't have that certain je ne sais quoi that makes a great Pilsner. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp, and the head held up fairly well and left some nice lacing about the glass.

Pours a dark straw color haze a slight haze to it, head settles into a nice thing dense layer of creamy bubbles.
Smell is floral and malty, almost get a tad of sweetness from it. There is also some subtle citrus notes to it as well.
Tastes is pretty hoppy, citrus again. There is also some earthiness to it. It’s almost lemongrass like but also mixed with some malt. There is a subtle off flavor and it’s hard for me to put my finger on it because it is so subtle but I can’t help but notice it. It detracts from the beer.
Mouthfeel is full but it is surprisingly dry on the finish. The carbonation is very pleasant and well done.

a: clear light copper color with some burnt orange notes and a frothy, 3 finger white head
s: grains, sweet grass, lemongrass, and a touch of herbal earthy hops. some sweet caramel and sweet grains. a hint of pepper. simple, but nice aroma
t: sweet grains and a strong earthy hop bitterness. a nice lager spice and some sweet lemongrass. a touch of hay and a big hit of crackers. finish is more of that earthy bitterness
m: light mouthfeel with high carbonation. spot on
o: a tasty beer, but it's missing something to push it to the next level

Pours a hazy gold with not much head but lacing as it goes down. Nothing much on the nose. Taste is slightly malty and a bit fizzy. A bit of pine and citrus. Not bad.
