my first beer from these guys, fashioned as a keller type, but in need of some refinement even beyond the sort of rawness that this style allows for. definitely not as fresh as it could be, a little less than fully clear, but still highlighted in the glass. aroma of stale or on its way to stale german malts, a bready lager type yeast, earthy minerals even with a brine thing to it, and some bittering hops still hanging on there on the back end. its a little flat right from the get go, and thats a big turn off in a style like this. i like its sort of classic german mix of flavors between the grain and the yeast, but it all seems a bit muted to me, not quite bland, but nothing to get real enthusiastic about either, and with just a little oxidation to it, it seems tired. ill need to try this one a little closer to the source next time, but it wasnt a particularly compelling introduction to this brewery. i like the style, the kolsch characteristics of the grain and yeast, but it doesnt quite come together for me...

 

 

Best overall beer to begin or end an evening. Smooth as hell. Pure.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Maybe I'm a kolsch hater but I thought this beer was so blah. Like drinking dirty water.
