As American as apple pie, main street and amber ale, Fifty West brewers get back to basics with one of America's favorite adaptation of a classic Irish ale style.
Main Street Amber Ale comes to the table with a classic, mostly bright deep copper, amber and light garnet hues. With a well constructed froth topping things off, the pleasant scent of citrus is deeply woven into a hearty malt mix of caramel, toffee, toast, nuttiness and bread curst. Those malty characteristics extend onto the early palate with the expected granola, graham cracker and caramelized crusted flavors. A shift toward a hoppy balance brings a middle palate of grapefruit and orange peel with a sharpening bitterness of pine, citrus peel and grassy herbs for balance and balance only.
Finishing malty-dry and semi-sweet, Main Street is one of those throwback flavors that always hit the spot. It's food friendly and truly inviting as an all purpose beer.

Color: Good amber color. What you'd expect.
Head: Little
Smell: Musty
Feel: Thin
Taste: Malty side. Little hops. Flat and dull.
I really like amber ales but I was pretty disappointed with this one.

L: Reddish caramel color, slightly sedimented. Creamy light tan/off-white head.
S: Pretty hop-forward--Citrus and grassy hops, hints of toasted bread & caramel/molasses.
T: Less hoppy than I expected given the smell, but still fairly hoppy. Toasted malt, caramel, citrus, hints of molasses. Earthy grassy/floral notes on the finish. Sweet and bitter flavors are balanced--maybe a bit on the bitter side.
F: Medium body, fairly carbonated.
Not bad, but a bit hoppier than I prefer in this style. I would want more developed malt flavors and less hops.
