Thoroughly enjoyed via the brewery from a growler in a snifter.
This rugged Wee Heavy pours a deep dark burgundy tinged mahogany
with a nice head of off white foam that settles to a thick ring, subtle light pool,
and very light lacing. Nose of smoked peat malt, dark brown sugars, and earthy
malts. Flavors hit the right notes for the style with earthy peat smoked malts,
dark brown sugar laced bread, dark berry notes of black berries and subtle currants,
and a lightly zesty hop note that is subtly herbal. Excellent mouth feel; smooth, rich,
warming, medium body, lightly coating, low carbonation, and a malty lightly smoked
finish. Overall, a fantastic brew worthy of the 3 medal winners who worked in collaboration
on this rather nice little ale.
A must try!
Cheers!
