Ale brewed with Deeper Roots coffee, vanilla and cacao nibs. Cellar-Aged in Bourbon Barrels.

There was always a method in the madness. Prior to building his bootlegging empire, George Remus practiced law and was known to go to extreme measures in order to protect his clients. He famously created the “ Transitory Insanity” defense to weasel criminals out of jail time. In fact, while on trial for the murder of his wife Imogene, he represented himself and successfully convinced a jury that he was temporarily insane. Barrel Blend: Weller Full Proof: 1 year, Buffalo Trace: 1 year, Eagle Rare: 1 year, New Riff: 2 years.

Look - Black and thick with a slight initial tan head, slight rimming, nice lacing
Smell - chocolate brownie with some coffee beans, slight barrel
Taste - Boozy and coffee forward with a slight cocoa brownie and some barrel along with roasty malts. As it warms up the brownie taste comes out more than when cold, still boozy and coffee forward though.
Feel - full body slight crisp carb, slight tingle on the tongue
Overall - That smell was the best part. The booze in this beer stands out.

Poured from a 12-oz bottle with an orange-gold paraffin cap into a tulip glass.

Look: Dark brown/black, with a 3/8” brown head that dissipated very quickly and left only the tiniest amount of lacing.

Nose: Chocolate brownie and coffee, just like the title.

Mouthfeel: Thick, adequate carbonation.

Attack: Follows the nose closely, with depth of dark roast; sweet, but not cloyingly so.

Finish: Alcohol and dark roast bitterness.

Overall: Though initially the look was a bit disappointing (but hey, it’s 15% ABV!), the flavor profile more than makes up for that. This is a very special brew (and, indeed, with a per-bottle price to match!). The Party Source in Bellevue, KY was only permitting purchase of one bottle per customer; I’ll be going back to buy another if there are any remaining. It’s a very near perfect pairing with our brunch of Venison Flatiron Steaks and Blueberry Sourdough Pancakes.
