First of all this is marked as a White Stout.
Pours amber coloured into tulip glass. Offwhite head is two - three fingers high with poor retention. Sudsy lacing is left behind.
Aroma is very definately coffee and oatmeal; does what it says on the tin, so to speak. But there's also that bourbon influence for sure amongst it all.
The flavour is a bit of a mixed bag with oatmeal dominating the palate before ashen coffee, a little background bourbon, roasted grain, buttery caramel, some wheat and bakers chocolate come to mingle.
Even for a 'White Stout' this is a little on the thin side. If you closed your eyes you could probably tell this wasn't a regular stout. A little over carbonated and dry on the finish; it actually feels more boozy than it is which is a bit strange.
I've never had a white stout before so I don't have anything to compare it to. However, I find the flavour to be interesting - if a little all over the place. Meh, give it a go.
