Being a regular at the Salem Beer Works I look forward to the nut brown ale every year. It's a great session beer when hanging out with friends.

The beer pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a creamy light tan head on top. The foam dissolves to a thick ring around the surface leaving some lines of lace on the glass. An aroma of nuts, roasted malt and molasses floats above the beer.

Each sip of this smooth medium bodied beer is full of flavor. It begins with some toffee and roasted malt. Towards the middle some nutty tastes take over and it finishes with a mildly sour hoppy flavor.

Sampled at the Salem location.

This ale poured a clear, red-brown color with good, tan foam that left lace down the glass. The smell was nutty and caramel malty, but was modest. The taste was sweet, caramel malt, with hints of coffee and chocolate. The mouthfeel was crisp, with modest carbonation, and medium-light body. The drinkability was good for this brown ale.

Deep and dark brown, pretty much a few shades away from black. A thin lace dresses the top. Lots of subtle malt in the nose with suggestions of mild coffee and chocolate. Small push of smoothness, layered malt flavours ranging from trace coffee and dark chocolate to a caramel dextrin to a nutty toasted grain. Very slight hopping is thrown in for good measure to keep things balanced. Slowly drying grainy finish. Very drinkable, this would be my ideal session brew at Salem Beer Works.
