Poured from 12 oz can into pint glass. A 2" beige head drops to leave moderate lacing. Color is deep amber. Rich malty aroma of cocoa, caramel, mild hop presence. Mouthfeel fairly light with a slowly drying finish. Flavors of caramel, fig, a hint of smoke, some earthy hops for balance. Overall: delicious and worth having many more times.

Rich, deep auburn-to-copper, and clear (SRM 21-23). One finger of light taupe head has a fine texture and is short-lived. Thick rings and spots of lace are left on a Pretentious Glass Company Dimpled Mug, while clouds of fine carbonation quickly settle.

The aroma has a solid, sweet caramel malt with faint peat. This is followed by lightly toasted white bread. It is clean and simple.

The flavor is all malt, with sweetness in check. Light bitterness seems to be primarily from the lightly toasted malt. Caramel is a bit more prominent than the Brazil and Hazelnuts that I tasted. The finish is earthy, mild, and brief. Warmth brings out light pine straw.

A medium body and soft woolen texture. Alcohol is higher than anticipated, while the carbonation is soft and fizzy.

This is a well done Scottish Ale. Warmth produces a pleasant afterglow. I imagine it will pair well with roasted game bird and long conversations in the crisp Autumnal air. This is definitely a woodsy brew, best suited to long, slow sessions.
