The brewery insists this is an American Strong Ale. At Fifty Seven Degrees, where I had this, they called it a Double Red Ale, which is more descriptive.
In any case the color is a beautiful clear, dark ruby red in the tulip. Quite handsome with a spritzy mouthfeel to the bottom of the glass. Woody and malty with a grainy tang. The hops are flavorful and clean with a long bitter finish.
This stuff is just so red, I wonder how they brewed it. Very tasty, just strong enough for a big beer, and it avoids the overdose of hops and sugar that a lot of these monster brews have. Another small brewery that barely gets kegs out on the market but worth seeking out.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
