Notes from January, 2017:
Dark brown coloring, fully opaque, toasted brown foam above.

In the nose: Sweet notes first, toffee, caramel, lightly toasty/roasty, slight hop presence, but mostly the malt keeps going on this one.

In the mouth: Mmmm. Yes. Just a little smokey in the flavor with this one, more than anything a malt monster. More toffee and caramel, creamy and delicious. Just delicious. Alcohol creeps up just a bit, but it's not bad. It's warming and it's working. (3 degrees below zero right now. It's so fun to be in Minnesota in January.)

So tasty, so rich, and so tasty. A nearly 9% Scotch ale that delivers all the malty goodness. Yeah, I'm liking this.

On-tap at the brewpub. Tasted 3 December 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours very deep brown, almost black in the glass. One finger of medium-dark brown-tan head. Good retention, and excellent lacing. Good stuff.

Smell is faint, earthy malts. Just really faint. What comes through isn't bad though.

Taste is a highlight. Peaty, moderately smoky, though that might be the name of the establishment speaking to my subconscious. A really nice balance of sweet, smoky/earthy, and mild bitter. Waves of flavors, pretty darn tasty.

Medium-bodied, carbonation is spot-on.

Quite a tasty scotch ale. Not the best I've had, but definitely in the top tier. My first time in this brewpub, and I'll be back.
