Cask at Vault.
Nice looking brew, dark brown-black, with a medium tan head. Served a bit too cold for the style, so I palmed it in an attempt to warm it up a bit. Malty nose, caramel, light nutmeg and licorice. First taste, there was something kind of "off" here. A tangy flavor, that was either a mild off-flavor (aka an infection just starting to set in) or just a weird combo of the adjuncts that went into this. I didn't really get any distinct maple or vanilla flavors, but there was an underlying sweetness that accompanied the dark malt base. Light spice, with the nutmeg coming out the most and the cinnamon non-existent. Not sure if they actually had the spices in there for a year or if they added them fresh, but if they were aging in there the whole time, it would explain why it wasn't very spicy at all. A little heat from the barrel, but not too boozy. Mouthfeel was on the thin side for a BA stout, but drinkability was decent once it warmed up a bit. Just that little tangy note in there that kind of threw this off. The other variant was better.

Can smell the spices and a tiny bit of rum. The lactose used adds a terrific creamy feel to a very flavorful beer. Cinnamon hits the tongue first but fades quickly.
