I am taking a (very) brief hiatus from the eradication of The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody to get back to what really matters: The CANQuest (tm)! This was a recent gift from a member of the FGBS Drinking Team & I wanted to get it in sooner rather than later.

From the CAN: "Drink Fresh, Drink Now."; "Use flat bottom glass[,] do not tilt[,] pour vigorously".

This was right up my alley since the Crack! was nice & loud + the CAN encouraged me to CANduct an inverted Glug (pour vigorously). The N2 charge caused a f'rilz cascade that formed a finger of dense, foamy, deep-tan/light-brown head with great retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with cola highlights especially at the edges. Nose was rich, especially with the scent of dark roasted coffee, but also bittersweet chocolate and light smoke. Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy, in keeping with an N2 pour. The taste was much sweeter than the nose had led me to expect! The coffee was prevalent, but there was also a milky/creamy flavor that reminded me of café con leche in total. Wow! I usually prefer my breakfast coffee to be black, but I CAN go with this. Finish was more towards semi-sweet than semi-dry, although I would not argue the point. It was quite tasty & a nice addition to The CANQuest (tm).

12 oz nitro can poured into a special Vault glass. Comes in a four pack with no widget inside. Brewed and canned once a year. Base style is an oatmeal stout with coffee beans and Vermont maple syrup added. From the Delaware River town of Yardley, PA and the brain child of brewer Mark Thomas.

L - dark brown in color with regular brown highlights on the bottom; completely dark hue; thick creamy light brown foam on top with fluffy lacing

S - mix between the coffee, chocolate, and maple syrup. Heavenly aroma

T - tastes like a dry stout with some roast from the coffee beans and a slight sweetness from the maple syrup. Kind of like a Guinness but with coffee and maple syrup

F - very similar to a Guinness. Smooth but flat feel, medium bodied, coffee grind type roastiness, dry through and through

O - I knew this was going to be good but not this good. A true beer drinker's breakfast stout, not too much of anything. Bone dry stout with the maple syrup to balance it out with also giving more flavor along with the coffee joining in as well. One of my favorite local breweries, Cheers!

Had this on 2017-02-14 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz can dated 2016-02-08 (1 year old) that I found in the back of my fridge. I'll have to provide another review when I get a fresh can; but here's what it is like with a year on it. Of interest, there was a significant pop / out-gassing when I opened the tab.

A - Opaque dark brown with a 2-finger tan head and nice lace.

S - Coffee, cocoa, light-medium roasted grain. Very nice.

T - Mocha coffee latte, light vanilla and oak/tannin followed by some tasty, roasted bitterness that dissipates in a balanced way against the residual malt/coffee/chocolate flavors.

M - Medium body and light nitro effervescence. Creamy for sure. I would have enjoyed a thicker feel.

O - No complaints; even with a year on it. I prefer a Founders Breakfast Stout for flavor and feel; but this is really good.

Poured into a 16 oz Flying Dog tulip glass canned on 2/8/16. Pours a beautiful slick nearly pitch black very aggressive and got a nice 2 inch fluffy tan head that takes its time settling into a film of bubbles, little lace left behind.

Smell is dry roasty coffee, vanilla, cocoa nibs, biscuit, and toffee.

Taste follows a shot of dry expresso, vanilla, biscuity grains, kahlua, and toffee.

Mouthfeel is less than medium, but creamy, very little carbonation as you would expect, dry as a bone, and drinkability is amazing.

Overall this is a very nice nitro coffee stout, thanks @Mcballz13 for this really nice example of the style.

Nearly black with some brown highlights, a big dense tan head forms in a tower of nitro fallout and settles to a lightly tanned off white head that leaves sheets of lace but not any that sticks. Notes of coffee, toasted grain, cream, light sugar sweetness and light wood. Velvet smooth, creamy, coating and a touch of dryness on the finish. Overall this was great, best attributes of a cold brew coffee with softer less bitter edges because of the nitro. Really well done.

Vault absolutely nailed it with this one. Their nitro stuff is generally good but the Breakfast Stout is straight cold, creamy coffee. Tons of coffee on the nose, followed up by tons of coffee in the taste. Supposedly there's maple and vanilla in this beer but I didn't get much at all (not disappointed though). The oats give it a decent body but this beer is still incredibly crushable. Months later I'm down to my last 2 cans and it's still drinking perfectly. One of the best coffee stouts I've had in awhile and my favorite offering from Vault. Will be first in line and probably not willing to share the next time this is released. Aggressive pour and plate of eggs and pancakes required.

Wow a truly excellent beer. It is along the lines of Founders Breakfast Stout.

A nice favorable stout. Great mouthfeel
