Canned on: 6-4-24

A - Light medium gold pour with vibrant carbonation and a nice even, bright white thin layer of foam resting on top.

S - Nice crackery crisp malt with earthy citrus and hay.

T - Crisp cracker malt that gets buried with a nice wall of earthy citrus, straw, with some spicy floral citrus and pine. Nice bitterness on the backside scrubs any sweetness away.

M - Dry finish and makes the walls of the mouth feel like it's lined with cotton.

O - Crisp, dry, and flavorful.

On-tap @ Vault Brewing Co. in Yardley, PA.

Golden color with a constant stream of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. Creamy white head that works its way down to a thin layer. Excellent clarity. Patchy lacing on the glass.

Very mild aroma. Some faint sweet cracker malt and grassy hops working their way through. Bitter flavor with sharp hops dominating, in line with the style. Clean and bitter feel. Went down easy.

Great thirst quencher on a hot and humid day. Perfect for a quick stop off the Delaware Canal Towpath.

Vault Brewing Co. "Teller Pils"
16 fl. oz. can coded "10/20/22" and sampled on 04/25/23
$15/4-pk @ Original XIII, Phila., PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: A slightly hazy golden body is topped by an inch and a half of tight bubbled white foam. The aroma is clean and fresh with grassy malt, noble hop character, and just a thread of lager-yeast sulphur. On to the taste then, there's a little more sulphur here, or is that a slate-like mineral component?, The malt is grainy, doughy, bready, and seemingly toasty. I wonder if there's some Vienna malt in the mix, or am I picking up some oxidation? It's malty, grassy, floral, spicy, a touch woody and leafy, and bitter. I'll hazard a guess that they've used some Perle hops in here, probably Saaz, and maybe some Hallertauer Mittelfrüh. It finishes dry with grassiness, leafiness, a little bit of mineral, and bitterness fading. It seems like 45 IBUs to me, which is upper-limit for the style, but the malt/bitterness balance remains good. The head has dropped to a thin but solid surface covering at this point but it has left some very nice lacing behind. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. The haziness in the appearance bothers me but maybe that's what makes it an "AMERICAN STYLE PILSNER BEER"; I'm not finding any American hops so it can't be that. I'm going to need to find a fresh sample of this as 6 months with unknown storage conditions is certainly not ideal.

16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single. Packaged on 6/08/2021, so this is almost 7 months old.

Look: Light yellow straw color with the faintest bit of cloudiness. Tiny bubbles rising at a moderate pace to the surface. A nice head upon the pour. A half pinky finger of fluffy white head is staying put with signs of nice lacing.

Smell: The aroma is pretty textbook for a Czech pilsner - doughy, grassy, a bit lemony...smells very crisp and clean. I get a subtle floral aroma and a very subtle dank/vegetal aroma.

Taste: It's refreshing and very drinkable. I would say that there is a bit more bitterness than I expected but that it definitely works well. Up front, I almost thought this was going to be too sweet but then it rounded out nicely with the bitter, dry finish. There's like an apple-juice sweetness up front, very doughy and crackery malt. Then the finish is Noble hop crispness - grassy, peppery, a bit citrusy almost pithy but this beer is not juicy at all. The bitterness is not super aggressive but it does linger long and it's very nice here. There might be a bit of a skunky flavor here, but if it is then it works.

Feel: Very easy drinking, light and refreshing.

Overall: I've had a few other Vault beers. This is my first lager as the other ones were hoppy pale ales / IPAs. I think that this is a solid take on a Czech pilsner style. I would totally take this over Pilsner Urquell any day.

16oz can poured into pilsner glass. Clear golden yellow with plenty of carbonation. Slight head ringing the glass which left a small patchy ring down the glass. Taste is pleasant if not unique. Pleasant aftertaste. A nice example of the genre. Would buy again.

Nice gold color with a white head leaving some lacing behind. Good bit of carbonation rising through the body. Smell is nice and malty, a grassy, floral aroma too. Taste is sweet at first sip, getting a lot of malt. Middle gives a hit of bitterness, grass, spice. Finish is crisp and clean. A bit of lemongrass in the end too. Medium body, good carbonation that keeps it clean on the tongue. This was a great beer. It is not a one trick pony with a lot of flavor coming out here. I liked this a lot.

One of the best pilsners I’ve had in ages! Deep maltyness with a lovely lemon/citrus finish. And so dang smooth!! Love the caramelish color. I think this is very special.

A thanks to the genius behind the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of grains, grassy, hops, lemons. Taste is identical to the aroma, the same four elements are present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer, but I didn't expect this much lemons to be found in this style.

L: very light yellow color with light carbonation but two finger head
S: Strong hops upfront with a bit of mellowness in the back
T: wow, surprising nice, the hops are not as butter as smell give off and the mellowness comes through perfectly
F: very light feel of creaminess around the edges lingers as the taste is dissipating
O: I found this surprisingly enjoyable. Very well done!

I want to get in (at least) one new BEER on New Beer Sunday (Week 731) since the bulk of the day was spent with Kvasses. I'm still on a bit of a sugar rush & I didn't feel like going big at this point. I usually like what comes to us from Vault B.C. in Yardley & I really like that they embraced CANs from the outset. This will have the added benefit of furthering The CANQuest (tm), which is always a nice thing.

From the CAN: "Unfiltered American Style Pilsner Beer".

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I did this because although it may be labeled as "Unfiltered", I have a preference for clarity whenever possible. It foamed up fairly quickly to form just over two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head that resembled meringue or whipped cream above lemon filling. Color was Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity, proving my point. Nose had a beautiful freshly-mown grass/recently-cut hay scent along with a nice biscuitiness that set my mouth to watering. Mouthfeel was medium, about on par for the style. The taste had an unexpectedly citrusy bitterness, almost like lemon and grapefruit pith. Still, if you think that I am going to CANplain about bitterness in beer, then you really don't know me very well. I will take any bitterness over sweet any day of any week! I live for bitter. Plus, the biscuit malt also made for a very pleasant interlude. I CAN easily envision filling a cooler with CANs of this for a beach outing this summer. Finish was crisp, clean & dry, just the way I like 'em. YMMV.
