Sampled in January2021 from 16oz can in pint glass. "Canned on" date of 12/30/2020 was on the can.
Appearance: Pitch black, dark color, and had a 3-finger dark tan head when poured. The head was very fine, and lasted only a very short time, and left almost no lacing on the glass.
Smell: There is a strong aroma of chocolate and peanuts as expected. There are some coffee and vanilla aromas detected as well. Nice combination between the various aromas, but the chocolate and nut aromas dominate.
Taste: Interesting balance of coffee and chocolate, but there is also some hops bitterness. There is a hint of sweetness and chocolate flavors that may be due to the malts. There is very little hop bitterness. I was very surprised at the variety of flavors, as I expect the chocolate and nut flavors to dominate based on the aroma. Overall it has a good taste. The combination of chocolate, nut, coffee, and bitter hops flavors give this drink an interesting combination of flavors.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, and very smooth like a milk stout. Moderate alcohol which matches with the 8.5% on the label.
Overall: Overall, this is an interesting beer, and a good chocolate stout. It is a fun beer to drink, and the hops bitterness makes this more interesting to drink than most other chocolate flavored stouts. I will buy it again.
