Although described as an Irish Potato Stout, this is not the same as their Irish Dry Stout which bears a similar name. The ABV is higher here, at an even six percent. This one is conditioned with toasted coconut, cinnamon and Madagascar vanilla. The pint can poured out a black coffee brown brew with a modest and enduring tan head. In a clear glass Imperial pint mug, those three additions are picked up by the nose, but they're not pronounced. The toasted coconut surely is to taste, however. Despite the reference to the seasonal candy, this isn't sweet. It's not a desert beer. The toasted coconut takes the lead on the tongue, but the cinnamon and vanilla are also present. But, the finish, especially the aftertaste, is roasted barley bitter. It also isn't a desert beer, since the body runs a little thin, rather than being made sticky by some sort of sweetening agent. Overall, this is a good American Stout, with some pleasant added flavors. There's no concern about the sparse glass lacing. The bitterly dry finish and reasonable level of additional flavors, make this a brew to have more than one at a time. That's something almost always untrue about desert beers.
