Back in the British Raj, elephant riding, tea-swilling settlers were in dire need of rescuing from the Indian sun. And so the India Pale Ale was born. Brewed with extra hops so it'd survive the voyage east, it was imbued with floral aromas, malty sweetness and a lingering dry finish. But enough of that Mumbo Jumbo. Stretch out on the verandah and enjoy.

330 ml bottle with a BB date of 26 March 2014.

Pours deep amber with very good calrity and a decent head.

The aroma and flavor both have a substantial sweet malt component that nearly balances the stronger smell and taste of floral/herbal New Zealand hops. A load of caramel malt in the flavor. The aftertaste has very good duration and is only moderately bitter.

O: a nice IPA featuring NZ hops. Recommended.

Six pack from Picton Super Liquor for $13.99. Seems to be a consistent price point for these guys. Best before 26 April 2013. From notes.

A - Poured golden in colour and bright. One finger of dense head that was off white left spotty lace and a tiny island of retention. Good carbonation.

S - Soapy, citrus was mild, some pineapple and tropical hop. The hop hop profile seemed a bit subdued but pleasant. Fruit candies and oranges.

T - Fruity citrus, fruit candies. Not a ton of complexity or grab you by the balls IPA flavour, but it's alright and inoffensive at least. Lot's of the aroma carries through in the flavour.

M - Proper IPA bitterness, strong carbonation, odd oily body.

O/D - Decent enough for an IPA. Considering the price, it shows well, but doesn't really wow. Tasty and easy to drink. Good value.
