With gumbo, creole, étouffée and andouille on every plate, the Fat Tuesday "24 hour" season is bountiful with the most decadent entrees deserve a beer to match.
Abita answers the request with a beautifully amber-tinted ale. Its hazy gaze casts an appearance of both creamy and zesty character. With the nose breaching the rim, a malty-sweet scent of pulled candy, croissant and circus peanut all come to mind while the taste is cake and of yeast.
Its malty trend treks onward with sugar cookie and angel food cake. But a toasted grain character captures a beer tone as the sweetness begins to fade. Fruity with apple, pear, melon and grape, the middle comes alive with wine-like zest, equipped with the slight tang, cork and spice of reisling.
Its starchy body shines with raw grain and refined bourbon as its late taste reveals its barrel-aged slumber- caramel, vanilla and oak all project to give the beer's finish a spicy-sweet warmth and a charming marshmallow afterglow.

A very nice, suprising, fruity, maybe pear, start. The finish is a subtle vanilla bourbon.
Less alcohol burn and bite than most bba and I like it.
A pleasing orange bronze color with a gold sheen.
Little or no foam and low carbonation.

Bourbon cream on the nose with a touch of citrus, possibly oranges. Underpinnings of barley grain malts, oak, vanilla and alcohol.
The front end is bourbonesque before it presents the bourbon cream. Mid palate is fruity but unlike the scent it's more in the form of peaches. It ends with barrel characteristics of Wood oak and alcohol.
The feel is a tad too thin for the style and it has a significant warmth.

On the sweet side, but great ester character of pear and green apple. Certainly boozy. The vanilla and caramel dominate initially. Flavor is very apple juicy.

On tap
A- pours a hazy golden yellow color with a small creamy white head that reduces to a ring, leaving some lace behind
S- predominately bourbon barrel on the nose with oak and barrel juice, slightly tart
T- barrel dominates the flavor as well, toasted oak and bourbon, slightly tart fruity notes hint of caramel on the finish
M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a dry finish
O- not a style that I would prefer for barrel aging. Nice barrel flavors, but I feel like it's a waste of a pappy barrel

Poured from a growler into a shot glass. This one was aged in Pappy Van Winkle barrels.
A: A hazy orange with an off-white head that ceases quickly. Decent lacing.
S: Bourbon comes on strong followed by biscuity malts and some citrus notes.
T: Nice. Fruity, malty, bourbon heavy, woody. A kickass blend that begs to be sipped.
M: Medium with light to medium carbonation. A bit dry.
O: Excellent. The fruitiness and malt blends well with the terrific bourbon barrel aging. Glad I lucked onto this great brew.
