22 ounce bottle, stamp on bottle says best before 03/01/16. Served in a Spiegelau stout glass, the beer pours a clear dark brown color with a couple inch light tan head that stayed around a little while. There's also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and minerally/saltiness. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some dark bread noticeable, and the mineral/salty flavor seems stronger in comparision to the aroma. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was an enjoyable brew, I'd drink this again. Certainly worth a try at $5.99 a bomber.

 

Something about this stout just hit me right: it's dry but not to dry, a good rich roasted malts stout taste without to much chocolate or to much coffee, just rich malts. A nice dark dark brown to black color with a thin lacing and no real head on this beer. And the no real head on it seems to be my only gripe. Boo me. I'm really happy I grabbed this single, I might have to grab a couple more next time out.

 

Needs a bit more saltiness and brine to live up to the name. One of Abitas better efforts, but their offerings always tend to be a bit thin. My wife’s family is from Metairie, so I am trying. Chicory, dark earth, and Girdy Bell’s britches.

My first oyster stout. I remember seeing this back in 2017 in bombers but didn't think anything of it. I was mistaken. Super good stout with a slight salty taste and a solid dark roasted malt backbone with a an almost effervescent coffee aroma . Flavors intensify as it warms.

Great beer that pours with a thin tan head. Roasted aroma that carries over to the flavor. Maybe a little chocolate underneath the heavily roasted malt. Bitter finish with a good body to it. A great beer, only drink it during months with an R in them.

 

 

It's back! Bad Mother Shucker has a thick, beige head, a black appearance, and minimal lacing. The aroma is of black bread. The flavor is of that, with some bitter char and possible brine. Bad Mother Shucker has a medium body and a dry finish.

This past Sunday was the occasion of Uinta Abita New Beer This Sunday, Bro./GEN Woody (Week 721)?. but I finished up with some beers still in the on-deck circle, this being one of them. Well, as they say, no time like the present!

From the Bottle: "Abita's Oyster Stout is one Bad Mother Shucker. Brewed with Pale, Caramel, Roasted and Chocolate malts, this Mother Shucker is hopped up with Willamette hops and balanced with the sweet, full flavor of oats. Fresh Louisiana oysters are added to the brew in the final stages, infusing a slight taste of sea salt that offsets the sharpness of the stout."

Having Pop!ped the cap, I was a bit a taken aback by the fact that I was getting some foaming action through the neck! I executed a quick pour to alleviate the problem, or so I thought. Moments later, I got even more foaming! Now, it was time for a C-Line pour to get the bulk of the beer out of the bottle & into the awaiting glass. Interestingly, it formed just under two fingers of dense, foamy, deep-tan/light-brown head with moderate retention as though having been given its release, it decided to calm down. Color was Very Dark brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with NE-quality clarity & cola highlights. Nose had a pleasant roastiness, like chocolate & coffee, but with a light saltiness. I have recently been turned onto chocolate with sea salt & while I normally eschew sweets like chocolate, the saltiness appeals to this retired US Navy sailor. Mouthfeel was medium, but I really expect a bit more of a presence in/from a Stout. The taste was very evocative of the aforementioned sea salt-encrusted chocolate! Yum. Loads of semi-sweet, not bittersweet, chocolate with a saltiness that really made it quite appealing. Finish was semi-dry, but I would not argue against/with semi-sweet. YMMV.

A: Smooth dark chocolate-coffee pour from the bottle shows a glisten of burgundy highlights from back lighting. A sandy-khaki colored head has a firm, cream consistency at one half inch and is moderately retaining. Thinly speckled lace dressing emerges.

S: Sweet chocolate/cocoa mixed with a lightly salty caramel flair is first on the nose. Sweet dark fruit, plums, most notably cherries along with a backing of fresh, moist, earthy coffee grounds. Light chocolate roastiness occurs on the finish.

T: The flavor was earthy chocolate, dark and roasted, along with some roasted grains. Small coffee interludes along with a softly bitter roasted grounds. Earthy finish off the tongue with a bit of silty ash and burnt grains. Smoked hops along with a faint saltiness rounds outs.

M: Medium body, small carbonation texture, with a earthy roast feel. Creamy and smooth, smoked malts leave a nice silty feel on the tongue.

O: Overall a good aroma and solid good flavor. Drinkability was very enjoyable, would of like to see a little bit more substance and saltiness, but fairs quite well as a solid pub drink in multiples that will lead to a good time during conversations. Soft campfire ash, novel name.
